Services

Toward the end of a pet’s life, many owners ask themselves the heartbreaking question “IS IT TIME TO SAY GOODBYE?”

Our pets are family members, and as they age, we want to know if they still have a good quality of life, how to prevent or alleviate their suffering, and how we can help provide our pets with a peaceful passing when it’s time.

Pets at Peace is an in-home pet euthanasia business that offers three services to pet owners at the end of their pets’ lives.

By connecting with Dr. Linden on an optional telemedicine call, pet owners can get a better understanding of the nature and progression of their pet’s disease, reduce clinic visits, minimize stress, and make informed decisions at the end of their pet’s life. Telemedicine allows the Pets at Peace team to meet with your family before a scheduled euthanasia to discuss the procedure as well as your family’s wishes regarding aftercare, ensuring that when it is time to say goodbye the process is peaceful for your family and your pet.

Dr. Linden may review pertinent medical records before a consultation and use telemedicine to observe a pet’s movement and behavior while the pet remains in their familiar home environment. Obtaining important data about the pet’s quality of life thru a telemedicine consult will help Dr. Linden expertly guide owners on end-of-life decisions.

Where permitted by law, Dr. Linden may use telemedicine to prescribe medication to alleviate a pet’s physical pain or discomfort in the days or weeks prior to an in-home euthanasia appointment.

Pets at Peace knows how difficult end-of-life decisions can be. To help provide comfort during this difficult time, we offer in-home euthanasia. This will allow your pet to spend their final moments in the place they are most comfortable, surrounded by the people who love them the most, without the noise and distractions of a veterinary office.

Home visits typically last 30-60 minutes. To help your pet have an extremely peaceful passing, your pet will receive a sedative that includes anti-pain and anti-anxiety medication. This typically takes 5-15 minutes to take effect. Once your pet is very relaxed Dr. Linden will administer an intravenous injection that will result in a gentle slowing of breathing and heart rate until your pet has passed. Dr. Linden will listen to ensure that the heart and breathing have stopped. This process can take as long as five minutes and is completely normal and peaceful.

In-home euthanasia is a planned, controlled end of life experience that is tailored to you and your pet’s needs and comfort. We are passionate about making your final moments together gentle and calm.

Our services are available for pets and their owners in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Please fill out our appointment request form here. We check our site twice daily (except on Saturday and Sunday when we check once daily). While we understand that the passing of your pet is difficult to predict, we would appreciate as much advance notice as possible. Unfortunately, we are not equipped to handle emergency euthanasia. It is however possible for us to handle same-day appointments if our schedule allows it. Please call our phone number if your concerns are urgent. If your pet is in a crisis and you cannot wait for a return call, it is best to go to your local animal emergency center.

Pets at Peace offers three options for aftercare. These include:

Private Cremation
We will provide transportation for your pet to Final Gift for an individual cremation with the return of their ashes to you. Final Gift ensures that the ashes you receive are ONLY the ashes of your pet.

Communal Cremation
When you choose communal cremation we will provide transportation for your pet to Final Gift. You will NOT RECEIVE THE ASHES BACK with a communal cremation. These remains will be placed at Final Gift’s cemetery grounds.

Home Burial
If you choose a home burial, we provide you with an appropriate size heavy-duty cardboard coffin. You will be responsible to check with your town to make sure this is a legal means of managing your pet’s remains. You will also be responsible to dig the appropriate size area and depth with which to bury your pet on your land.
